Insurance in Clark, NJ

Omega Insurance Agency works out of 155 Westfield Ave, minutes from the Garden State Parkway at Exit 135. We place personal, business, and trucking coverage for Clark households and for the corridor economy that runs right past the township line.

A Local Agency

Clark is a small township with a big road running through it

Clark counted 15,544 residents in the 2020 Census, packed in at roughly 3,637.7 people per square mile. Robinson’s Branch Reservoir — the largest body of water in Union County — bisects the township diagonally, and the Rahway River Parkway greenway traverses it along the river. It is a settled, residential place, and it is also a place where the Garden State Parkway passes straight through the middle at Exit 135.

That combination is why insurance here is not a generic purchase. A quiet street of mid-century houses sits a few minutes from a rebuilt Parkway circle, a reservoir sits inside a federally studied flood basin, and one of the busiest freight corridors in the country runs just past the eastern township line. Each of those facts changes what a policy should look like.

Omega Insurance Agency is an independent agency. We are not tied to one carrier, so we shop the market and match the coverage to the exposure — whether that is a homeowner on a 1950s block, a retailer on the Raritan Road corridor, or an owner-operator running to the port. Roads & Corridors

The highways that shape risk in Clark

The Garden State Parkway is Clark’s only limited-access highway. Everything else — the Turnpike, the interstates, the port — is regional, and reachable from the township rather than inside it. Here is the honest geography, because it is the geography that drives auto, commercial auto, and trucking exposure.

Through Clark

Garden State Parkway, Exit 135

The Parkway passes directly through the township at Exit 135, signed “Clark / Westfield.” The Clark Circle ties Central Avenue, Brant Avenue, and Valley Road into that interchange. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority rebuilt the circle in a project that ran from 2007 to 2009 — a fair measure of how much traffic moves through it.

One town south

NJ Turnpike (I-95) and US 1

The Garden State Parkway meets the New Jersey Turnpike and US 1 in Woodbridge Township, which borders Clark to the south. That puts Turnpike and Route 1 access one town away by Parkway for local fleets and delivery vehicles.

Regional

I-287 out of Edison

I-287 begins at an interchange with the New Jersey Turnpike in Edison, the Middlesex County township on Clark’s southern border, and runs west and north toward Metuchen, South Plainfield, and Piscataway — the route many local commercial vehicles take out of the shore-side corridor.

Regional

I-78 across northern Union County

I-78 crosses the northern half of Union County, running through Berkeley Heights, along the Summit and Mountainside border, and through Springfield Township. It is the east–west interstate for the county Clark sits in, though it does not touch the township itself.

Freight anchor

Port Newark–Elizabeth Marine Terminal

Run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and located just east of the New Jersey Turnpike and Newark Liberty International Airport, the terminal is the region’s dominant freight hub and one of the busiest container ports in the United States. Elizabeth, the Union County side of the complex, is the county’s largest city at roughly 140,400 residents.

Next door

Linden’s warehousing market

Linden borders Clark to the east and is an active warehousing and drayage market. The Linden Logistics Center on the Tremley Point waterfront is a multi-building Class A park launched at 4.1 million square feet, about three miles from NJ Turnpike Exit 13 and roughly 20 minutes from Port Newark and Port Elizabeth, with access via the Turnpike, Route 1/9, and the Parkway.

Local Exposures

Three things we underwrite for in Clark

These are not marketing talking points. Each one is documented in public records for this township, and each one changes a coverage recommendation.

Flooding is documented, not hypothetical

Clark sits inside the 82-square-mile Rahway River Basin, which spans 24 municipalities across Union, Essex, and Middlesex counties and is the subject of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Flood Risk Management Feasibility Study. Robinson’s Branch — one of the three major study areas — runs through Clark and Rahway and is impounded at the Clark reservoir. Notable basin flood events include Hurricane Irene in 2011 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and Union County has received federal funding for a Rahway River flood project. A standard homeowners policy does not cover flood; that is a separate policy and a separate conversation, and we will have it with you before a storm forces it.

An older housing stock

Clark’s median home construction year is reported as 1961, with roughly 15% of homes built before 1950, and housing in ZIP 07066 is described as primarily built in the 1940s or 1950s. Older houses raise questions a newer subdivision does not: roof and system age, how a carrier treats original wiring and plumbing, and, most importantly at claim time, the gap between market value and what it actually costs to rebuild to today’s codes. Replacement cost and ordinance-or-law coverage matter more on these streets than they do almost anywhere else. See our page on older homes in Clark.

Dense traffic feeding one interchange

The Parkway runs through the township at Exit 135, and the volume at the Clark Circle was enough to prompt a full redesign by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority between 2007 and 2009. Local streets funnelling into a single limited-access interchange is a liability picture, not just a commute. It is a reason to look hard at liability limits, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, and — for businesses with vehicles — hired and non-owned auto coverage.

What We Write

Coverage for Clark households and businesses

One agency, one phone number, and a market of carriers behind it. Pick the line you need, or call and we will sort it out together.

Around Town

Landmarks and everyday Clark

We insure people who live and work around these places. Knowing the township is part of getting the coverage right.

Dr. William Robinson Plantation Museum

At 593 Madison Hill Road, a circa-1690 house built by the Scottish physician Dr. William Robinson. It is listed on both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places and is maintained by the Clark Historical Society.

Robinson’s Branch Reservoir

Known locally as the Clark Reservoir and described as the largest body of water in Union County. It bisects the township diagonally, and it is where Robinson’s Branch is impounded within the Rahway River Basin.

Oak Ridge Park

A 90-acre Union County park in Clark, converted from a golf course into parkland in 2009. It holds turf fields, walking paths, the historic Homestead Farm at Oak Ridge, and an archery range described as the first facility of its kind in the region.

Hyatt Hills Golf Complex

At 1300 Raritan Road: a nine-hole course, a driving range, and mini-golf, built on the roughly 84.8-acre former Hyatt Clark Industries plant site that spans Clark and Cranford.

Clark Commons

A 241,000-square-foot retail complex with 15 retail spaces plus restaurants, developed on the former US Gypsum plant site on Raritan Road, opposite the Hyatt Hills entrance. It is the township’s main shopping anchor.

Rahway River Parkway

A greenway running along the Rahway River that traverses the township — and a reminder of how close much of Clark is to the watercourse the Army Corps has been studying.

Local Economy

Research inside the township, freight just outside it

R&D and retail in Clark proper

L’Oréal opened its North America Research & Innovation Center in Clark in early 2025: a roughly 250,000-square-foot campus employing more than 600 scientists, engineers, and researchers, and the company’s largest research center outside France. The campus carries 10,000 solar panels covering about 70% of the facility’s power needs. Alongside that, Clark skews retail and services, anchored by the Clark Commons corridor on Raritan Road.

Warehousing and drayage next door

The heavy trucking and warehousing employment sits in the adjacent municipalities rather than in Clark itself — Linden, Rahway, Elizabeth, and Woodbridge. Linden alone hosts the 4.1-million-square-foot Linden Logistics Center on Tremley Point plus an established public warehouse operator of about 1.2 million square feet, all feeding the Routes 1&9 corridor and the Port Newark–Elizabeth complex run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Practically, that means a Clark insurance conversation swings widely. One week it is replacement cost on a mid-century colonial; the next it is a motor truck cargo limit and a certificate for a shipper. We write both sides — see trucking insurance or business insurance for the commercial side, and home insurance for the personal side.

Community

Who lives here, and the market around it

Clark is a compact township inside a large, diverse county. We serve both, and we are careful not to confuse the two.

15,544Clark residents, 2020 Census
3,637.7People per square mile in Clark
575,345Union County residents, 2020
34.0%Of Union County residents are Hispanic or Latino

Within Clark itself, Hispanic or Latino residents made up 12.51% of the 2020 population. The wider county looks different: about 33.5% of Union County residents were born outside the United States, and in Elizabeth — the county’s largest city — Hispanic residents are the largest group, roughly 52,600 people. That county-wide market is who walks through our door in Clark, which is why every page on this site can be switched between English and Spanish using the EN/ES control in the top bar.

Areas Served

From Clark, out across Union County

Clark directly borders Scotch Plains and Westfield to the west; Cranford and Winfield Township to the north; Linden and Rahway to the east; and Edison and Woodbridge Township, in Middlesex County, to the south. We write across that ring and out into the wider Rahway River Basin.

Yes. Clark sits beside a heavy freight corridor: the Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal is run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and is one of the busiest container ports in the United States, and neighbouring Linden hosts the 4.1-million-square-foot Linden Logistics Center about three miles from NJ Turnpike Exit 13.
